Lazy Weekend & Sick Saturday

This weekend has been a pretty lazy one for me. I haven't officially started any homework yet (What?! But class is tomorrow!) And I haven't been to the grocery store at all... gasp!

Usually on the weekends (Fri-Sun), I help my dad get around town, and we carry out his errands, as well as mine. We usually stop by Whole Foods and/or Trader Joe's and pick up some much-needed mainstays, or new ingredients to try out new gluten-free, sugar-free dishes. But not this weekend!

Maybe it's all the changes my body has been going through lately, but I've been getting pretty insomniac lately. Well, that combined with the added appeal of Star Trek: Voyager marathons via Netflix with my dad until the wee hours of the night. Insomnia and Voyager go hand-in-hand with me. :)

So, because I stay up late, and my body always self-adjusts to a full 8 hours of sleep, my body overcompensates, and just sleeps in later, which means I keep waking up in the afternoon. Then, I'm tired and sluggish... sometimes too tired to get a hearty meal into me. All I wanted were small niblets of food this weekend... and I paid for it on Saturday!



Yesterday, I just didn't want to chew, nor digest. I was tired, sluggish, and just didn't feel good. So boiled some chicken breasts and veggies. I nibbled a bit on both with some sugar-free apple cider vinegar ketchup. And, as usually, drank a loooot of water. I'm always thirsty. Then, I proceeded a bit later to do a workout. I walked along with one of my favorite Wii fitness games, Walk It Out, for about an hour. Then I did 44 minutes or so of Candlelight Yoga with Sara Ivanhoe, a mainstay in my Netflix queue.

After the yoga was over, I slowly stood up... but the speed (or lack thereof) of my rising didn't really matter, because as soon as I was standing straight, and my head was up, I started to feel uneasy and dizzy. Black fuzzy/blurry clouds started to invade my vision, and one thing popped into my head: I'm going to pass out. So I quickly sunk to my knees into child's pose and breathed deeply, grounding myself into the floor. After a while I felt that I was okay to sit up, and laid back against piece of furniture. Thankfully, my mom was there, and she brought over some soymilk and some more chicken and vegetables for me. I felt so feeble, it was crazy. I hadn't felt like that since the last really bad flu I had. I ate, and drank the soymilk. Eventually, I felt as though I could get up, and I did. I walked around...

And found myself getting sicker. Because, apparently, the chicken I ate had given me mild food poisoning! What?! I got really sweaty, and got cold chills. It as awful.

So I pretty much spent the rest of my Saturday trying to nourish myself, get rid of my food poisoning, and also try to get more sodium back into my body (I realized that although I drink a lot of water every day, I actually don't get much sodium, since I pretty much just eat plain vegetables with a side of protein. This is also especially bad since our air conditioning is broken, so I am constantly perspiring while at home).

So yeah... that was fun. And I've learned my lessons!
  • Eat properly & nourish myself!
  • Get enough sodium!
  • Don't leave food out on the counter, EVER (stupid chicken)
  • Do not overexert yourself during exercise, especially without nourishment (duh, self!)
Seriously, I feel so stupid. But we all have to feel stupid sometimes for some things to come to our realization and really sink in. And I think the BEST thing I can do is to get my proper rest. By sleeping earlier and rising earlier, my eating, fitness, and vitamin schedule won't get thrown off, and I will have proper energy. All of the suffering of Saturday could have been circumvented if I had just gotten my proper rest, and stayed on schedule. :)
